Donald Trump is learning the hard way that you shouldn't launch an illegal war on behalf of a genocidal sociopath unless you're prepared to be in it for the long haul.
As Trump's Israel-backed war with Iran bleeds (both figuratively and literally) into its sixth month, sources are now revealing that the US President is growing increasingly "exasperated," recently erupting on his top national security officials, as no one seems to be able to get on the same page long enough to tell him how to end this damn thing. At the same time, Iran continues to make a fool out of him at every turn.
The new reporting broke exclusively with NBC News, citing one United States official as well as several inside sources familiar with these discussions that pull the curtain back on a house divided inside 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
One US official said, "After all this time, there is no unity."
According to sources who spoke with NBC News, Trump suffered an emotional, expletive-ridden explosion behind closed doors last week, in a meeting with his top national security officials over the stunning lack of progress that's been made with respect to Iran. Trump Administration officials cannot seem to get on the same page regarding tactics to end this thing, with some believing that dismantling Iran's nuclear program should remain the top priority. In contrast, others believe that protecting shipping abilities through the Strait of Hormuz is most important, and others still opine that destroying Tehran's missile and drone arsenal is at the top of the list.
The same official told NBC News that while the Trump Administration has "had a series of tactical victories," it is still "facing a strategic defeat without clear policy guidance or a decision about where this is going."
Another source with close knowledge of the recent discussions told the publication that Trump is growing increasingly discouraged and disheartened by Iran's outright refusal to strike a deal with the man who considers himself the best businessman, even to strike a foot on solid earth.
"The President is exasperated," the insider told NBC News. "I don’t think he believed it was going to be this difficult to get the Iranians to agree to a deal… There was not a real strategy for how long or what they should do to get to the endpoint."
"He did not intend this to be a long, drawn-out war."
Like the good little submissive woman she is, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has already launched herself into clean-up mode, publicly disputing the reports that Trump pitched a temper tantrum over his war, telling NBC News, "This is false. The President has a great team whom he trusts, and everyone on the team knows he’s the final decision-maker."
"He is not going to stand by as they break the MOU, kill our soldiers and fire at our ships in the strait. So until that behavior changes, his behavior will not change," she added. "He’s locked and loaded to keep punishing Iran."
I guess his mama never told him not to start what he can't finish.
