Trans Secretary Sean Duffy is boasting that he solved the staffing shortage of air traffic controllers that he caused by firing thousands of workers a year and a half ago.

There are a couple of things that need to be pointed out.

The first thing is that Duffy is bragging about hiring so many people and how the "best and brightest" are making it into the academy in record time. He credits a "streamlined hiring process." As a former public sector worker, I can tell you without doubt or hesitation that when a Republican talks about a streamlined hiring process, they always mean cutting corners and relaxing requirements, such as dropping degree requirements or easing proficiency requirements. Gee, doesn't that make you feel safer already?

The second thing is that most of the people in that video are people of color and/or women. I want Duffy to explain how that fits into the administration's anti-DEI approach. Know this administration and Duffy's background in reality TV, it could be that those people in the video are actors and not actual employees. If those people are actual employees, Duffy will need to explain how they are better than all of the people he had fired a year and a half ago for being people of color and/or women.

I'll reserve judgment until we find out how these people respond when they find out there is no pause button for when mommy calls them to dinner, or there is no reset button when they cause a crash.
