“Nothing like this has ever happened to me,” he said. That's completely believable. When you're white and wealthy, things like this aren't supposed to happen to you, are they? Shielded his entire life from the horrible effects of his own votes, John Gannon has never had to deal with the consequences before. Until now, that is.

HOUSTON — John Gannon supported President Donald Trump in 2024. Now, the 75-year-old businessman and lifelong Republican says he would not make the same choice again.
“I voted for Trump,” Gannon said. “I'm saying that they're picking up law-abiding citizens. They're destroying families, jobs.”
Gannon’s change of heart followed the detention of his fiancée, 45-year-old Venezuelan immigrant Yasmin Suarez Reyes, at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston in late July.
“After leaving the United room, eight officers, ICE agents swarmed Yasmin and detained her,” Gannon said. “Didn't tell us why and wrestled her off into a car.”
When asked what went through his mind as the incident unfolded, Gannon said he was in disbelief.
