Fox host Martha MacCallum was speaking with Elijah Manley, who was running to represent Florida in Congress. The subject was immigration, and MacCallum tried to be slick and trip Manley up. It didn't turn out the way she expected.
MacCallum laid the trap by saying, "There are s- there's almost no country in the world that allows people to just cross their border and begin a life inside that country. You have to come in legally. Would you not agree with that?"
However, Manley was ready for her and replied, "I agree with that, but there's a right and a wrong way to carry out our laws. We have a constitution in this country. We have rule of law." Manley continued, "We have a Congress, and we cannot have a situation where we have people terrorizing not just, you know, immigrant communities, but terrorizing our communities, shooting p- random people in the face like Alex Pertie. I mean, this is not an acceptable way to carry out our laws in this country. The President and the executive branch need to enforce the laws. But they need to obey Congress, because Congress is part of our Constitution in this country."
The stammering MacCallum tried one more time to trip him up by claiming he didn't answer the question. "Right. Well, let me tell you one thing, uh, Elijah. Congress's laws are the laws that ICE is upholding, and I'm just gonna ask you one more time," MacCallum continued, "because you didn't answer my question: Are you OK with someone crossing our border illegally, even though that's against the laws of the United States? I'm not talking about how they're removed. Are you OK with them coming in legally?"
Manley was unflappable while he continued to press back, "I think I answered this question. I think I answered this question. We have to enforce the laws that we have on the books if someone's coming into the country illegally. But there is a right and a wrong way to enforce the law. We cannot shoot people in the street."
Manley then went in for the kill, "We cannot kidnap Americans off the street indiscriminately. You may be OK with that. I'm not OK with that, Martha."
MacCallum sputtered as she admitted she was not OK with ICE breaking the law, then beat a hasty retreat.
Despite this beautiful performance, Manley lost in his primary race on Tuesday.
