During Ken Paxton’s telephone town hall, an intrepid caller confronted him on his Christian hypocrisy. “Hi, Paxton, it’s nice to meet you,” a woman began, in a sweet voice. “I’m just wondering: Why did you cheat on your wife?”

There was a long pause. Finally, Paxton replied. “Um, I’m not gonna talk about personal issues that relate to my family,” he said. “Just like I don’t think you would want to discuss your marriage on a call with thousands of people.”

“All I can tell you is that I’m proud of my kids,” he continued. “Got four wonderful kids. I’ve got seven grandchildren – well, six and one on the way and there’s a lot at stake and so while I care about this country, I’m not gonna talk about things that would affect them.”

Normally, I do not care about a candidate’s marriage. Also, I would not expect Paxton or any candidate to go into any marital problems. But there were some details in his brief response that I found telling.

For one thing, Paxton did not deny cheating on his wife. And, by the way, his current mistress, Tracy Duhon, a Christian influencer with whom he lives out of wedlock, is at least his second. The other mistress that we know of was a key figure in his 2023 impeachment.

Second, the “personal issues” about Paxton’s infidelity is about his own unscrupulous behavior and does not have anything to do with his children or grandchildren.

Third, Paxton holds himself up as a champion of conservative, Christian family values. Yet, although he is a seasoned politician, he seems to have no answer for being unfaithful to his wife. He has to know he’ll be asked about this.

He and his campaign must have made the calculation that there is no good way to talk about it. Or to put it another way, he's a hypocritical cad who has either repeatedly betrayed his Christian values or never had them to begin with.
