“Food and Drug Administration investigators traveled to Taylor Farms’ operation in Mexico for the first time this week to start inspecting the facilities linked to the largest cyclospora outbreak in the U.S.,” The Washington Post reported Saturday.

“Given the scale of the outbreak, food-safety experts and some former top FDA officials said the agency should have gone to Mexico sooner than nearly a month after officials publicly connected the company’s shredded lettuce to an outbreak that has sickened nearly 10,000 people,” The Post also noted. “Though Mexican officials and the company have conducted their own testing on the farm, some food-safety experts worry the conditions that may have contributed to the contamination are gone, complicating investigative efforts.”

You don’t say.

By wild coincidence, I’m sure, it just so happens that Taylor Farms is a big MAGA donor. The company donated $1 million to the MAGA Inc. super PAC in 2025 and another 2.6 million to conservative groups between 2020-2025. As Conover Kennard reported last month, after Taylor Farms executives got a sit-down with White House and FDA officials to gripe about the handling of the outbreak response, the FDA couldn’t seem to make up its mind as to whether or not the outbreak originated at Taylor Farms or not. It finally settled on the former.

Still, the FDA didn’t think it needed to investigate the Mexican operation until this week. Its excuse was that extensive research was required first. The FDA’s acting deputy commissioner for food, Donald Prater, told The Post, “If you just go out the door to do an investigation without having this information, without having the knowledge of where the products were actually likely grown, then you could actually not use your resources as effectively as you could.” Prater said. The Post added, without further comment, “His comments reflect the FDA’s latest account of the investigation.”

Oh.

Whatever caused this particular FDA action spurt, there is no denying that the CDC stopped monitoring the parasite responsible for the outbreak in July 2025. That was during Musk's DOGE "efficiency" cuts.

Both the FDA and CDC are agencies overseen by Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the guy who claims to be dedicated to making Americans healthier, but seems far more intent on killing us.
