A small MAGA law firm that specializes in “complex environmental” matters just got a $150 million federal contract earmarked for legal aid to immigrant children. That is after the Trump administration let a contract with a very qualified legal network expire because its attorneys refused to hand over sensitive information about their clients, according to States Newsroom.

As the States Newsroom explains, the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Refugee Resettlement, which is supposed to care for unaccompanied migrant children, “plans to award a $150 million contract to a small Texas firm — with no specialty in immigration law and run by a former Trump official — to provide legal services to tens of thousands of unaccompanied immigrant children.”

That firm will soon be in charge of representing as many as 24,000 unaccompanied immigrant children in their various court proceedings, States Newsroom notes.

There appears to be a nearly two-week period in which the children will have no representation. Although the new contract begins August 15, “unaccompanied minors have lost access to their legal representation,” as of August 3, States Newsroom reported.

God only knows what kind of legal representation the children will get after that. One thing we do know is that the Trump administration won’t care. If anything, this is a deliberate attempt to sabotage the children’s legal rights and well-being, while pretending otherwise.

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., the shockingly unqualified secretary of HHS, doesn’t have a single medical credential. So you could - though I don’t - chalk up his medical malfeasances to ignorance and incompetence.

But he is a lawyer. He surely knows exactly what he has done to these children.
