I haven't seen a song inspire revulsion the way Lil' Wayne's new rock crossover "Prom Queen" has since I was a tween.

Clearly, there's something wrong with me because I like it. I like that it has more in common with the style-apery of Ween (i.e. it goes for the content and the lyrical style, not just the sonic stamp) than it does Kid Rock's bad rap with loud guitars. I like that Wayne's recounting of white suburban youth is clearly not autobiographical, even if you don't know that he was already a famous rapper by the time Junior Prom would've rolled around and sure wasn't sitting behind anyone with fancy underwear in Algebra II. I like that the "I'm singing what I'm usually singing about but there are guitars" or the "It's my usual lyric, but I'm rapping it" that has defined most of these ill-attempted crossovers is missing. I like that he tries to sing like HR from Bad Brains.

Still, everyone hates it but me.
